On Saturday 8th June, the Friends of Lister Lane Cemetery hosted the 2019 AGM of the National Federation of Cemetery Friends (NFCF). Over 40 NFCF members representing cemetery friends groups from around the country attended the event held at the Inspire Centre, Calderdale College.
The day's proceedings were opened by Deputy Mayor of Calderdale, Cllr Angie Gallagher, who welcomed everyone. Holly Lynch, MP for Halifax then spoke, including fascinating anecdotes about her own family history. David Glover, Chairman of the Friends of Lister Lane Cemetery then presented an illustrated talk detailing the former Halifax General Cemetery’s history.
Our visitors were then invited to participate in conducted tours of the cemetery which was greatly enhanced by the presence of members of the Halifax Thespians, who acted the part of characters buried in the cemetery. Persistent rain did not appear to dampen the enthusiasm of either the actors or the visitors.

Back at the Inspire Centre, a good buffet lunch awaited which included appropriately themed cupcakes.
After lunch the formal business of the NFCF AGM got underway.
The Friends of Lister Lane Cemetery would like to acknowledge the generous support of the Community Foundation for Calderdale, the Inspire Centre, Calderdale College and Calderdale Bereavement Services.
